Customer Spotlight-PT Eka Eksplorasi

PT Eka Eksplorasi is an Indonseian-based gold exploration company that has been exploring the Kapuas River of West Kalimantan Indonesia for the past 12 years. The Kapaus River system has been identified as having potential for the development of significant alluvial gold deposits.

In the early ‘90’s, I was given the job of evaluating the alluvial gold potential of a 100 km length of the Kapuas River, (largest river in Indonesia) West Kalimantan. We had to start “from scratch”, and essentially developed our own system of evaluation of this large area.

I have attached a photo of the “washing/screening” unit that I designed and made for my last project; we RC drilled an alluvial gold project, with a 10-15m deep hole  completed in 15 minutes or so. My “twin” screening / concentrating unit enables us to process all the drill samples, as well as passing all “reject” -2mm material from all samples from one drill hole, back though the Knelson to check for losses. The amount of gold recovered from the “second” pass was “negligible”, but certainly added to the total gold recovered. As you can see from the photo, the work was largely carried out by our well trained Indonesian workers. As you can see from the photo, the material is all relatively “fine grained” with the largest cobbles c 50mm, I then decided to carry out all infill drilling using reverse circulation air drilling, which required a more rapid system of sample treatment. And our rig was born.

Onboard 240v genset and water pump for washing and operating the twin Knelsons. The whole unit was dragged around behind the drillrig, and performed fabulously throughout. The output from the Knelsons was then sent to our field lab, where it was passed through the smaller laboratory Knelson, and the contained alluvial gold extracted from this smaller volume of HMC.

My present project now concentrates on the modern Kapuas river, where we expect to discover large “riffle bar” deposits, with eventual mining using modern bucket-wheel dredging techniques(up to 1000m3 per hour), and onboard mineral processing using high throughput jigs, and possibly Knelsons for the recovery of very fine gold”.

Guy H. Dods BSc, LRSM is the Managing Director of PT Eka and it’s New Zealand sister company Eka Mining (NZ) Ltd.

Our thanks to Mr. Dods for submitting the photo and accompanying editorial explaining his novel and unique application of a Knelson Concentrator in the exploration of large alluvial gold deposits in Indonesia.
