Rod mills are used in laboratory facilities often as the final stage for size reduction of ore through comminution. The Knelson Rod Mill (KRM), a tumbling mill characterized by the use of rods as grinding media can be used for both wet and dry grinding.Additionally, the KRM has the capability of being used as an attrition scrubber when supplied with an optional lifter-bar insert.
The KRM has a solids capacity of 4-15kg (10-35lbs.) of dry material but is typically run with a charge of 10kg of solids in a 60% solids by weight slurry. The KRM features a convenient hydraulically controlled tilting deck system to allow for easy loading and unloading of the mill. The robust stainless steel mill body and rods reduce sample contamination via corrosion and allow for quick and easy clean up.A start/stop controller and timer located on the outside of the cabinet allow for jogging the mill into a convenient discharge position and the integrated timer allows for precise grind times to be repeated.
Easy sample removal with little lifting is accomplished by using the discharge port, sample discharge chute and stainless steel discharge hopper (slurry wagon). Rods can be effectively and efficiently cleaned and stored in the stainless steel rod tray (optional). The entire unit is built so that it can be moved using a simple pallet jack but remains stable while in use.The enclosure is manufactured with a lightweight aluminium cover lined with sound damping insulation for noise reduction.
The mill is set to run at 70 RPM (approximately 80% of critical speed).
