FREESTATE, South Africa - Knelson is pleased to announce the recent order for a 150 tph "KC-XD48 Concentrator to Avgold's Target project. Target represents the most significant new mine development in the South African mining industry in several years, and in fact will be the home of the first KC-XD48 in that country.
Although there are now 34 Knelson Concentrators in operation in SA, the scale of the older South African multiple ball mill circuits lends itself more to intermediate size (KC-XD30) concentrators. The Target Project however will utilise a more modern SAG mill/ball mill circuit suitable for larger capacity concentrators.
The Target order fulfils the Avgold stable, with all of the company's mines now equipped with Knelson Concentrators. The most recent acquisition was a KC-CD30 machine which was commissioned at Loraine Mine in September 2000. The Loraine plant is being used as a pilot operation on Target Project ore, and the performance of the KC-CD30 had a strong bearing on Avgold's decision to incorporate gravity at Target, and to award the supply contract to Knelson.
This order makes the 10th KC-XD48 machine in operation throughout Africa and 46th world-wide. The most recently- commissioned of these are two units at the Morila Gold Mine in Mali, which have are producing approximately 175kgs (5600ozs.) of gold per week.
