Porcupine Joint Venture Orders ACACIA Reactor

Back to WHAT'S NEW

September 30th, 2002

TIMMINS, Canada - Knelson is pleased to announce that Placer Dome (CLA) Limited has ordered a ConSep ACACIA 6000 Reactor for the Porcupine Joint Venture in the Timmins Mining Camp of Ontario, Canada.

The ACACIA 6000 was ordered following pilot tests at the Placer Dome - Dome Mill, where Knelson Concentrates from both the Dome and Hoyle Pond Mines were tested. Overall recovery exceeded 98% throughout the pilot program.

In July 2002, the Dome mill began processing ore from the Hoyle Pond mine and ore from the Dome Mine open pit and underground operations. According to Senior Metallurgist Don Strickland, this increased overall gold production by 40-50%. As the mill is CIP limited, maximizing gravity recovery is essential to maintaining high overall recovery.

Present gravity recovery exceeds 40% of mill feed.

The Placer Dome ConSep ACACIA Reactor 6000 will be the largest capacity unit built to-date and will be delivered and commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2002.

The ConSep ACACIA Reactor is a patented, high efficiency leaching system, exclusively designed to handle the high-grade concentrates produced by Knelson Concentrators. The system is designed to maximize gold recovery from gravity concentrates and provide numerous process advantages over a conventional gold room.

"It must be noted that the Knelson Concentrator only treated a partial stream of the secondary cyclone underflow, being a test unit. Results would be far better if the total stream had to be passed through the Knelson Concentrator."

"The effective performance of the unit was under estimated originally. Any gold processing plant, treating ore containing free gold, fine or coarse, should select a Knelson to treat the total stream."

"The installation of the Knelson proved to be a profitable and valuable project in terms of improving the overall plant recovery and data gathering for the design of the gravity circuit on the new Target Metallurgical Processing Plant."

"Although difficult to ascertain the exact influence of the Knelson Concentrator on the overall recovery of Loraine Plant, due to changing plant feed grades and tonnages, it is fair to assume an overall plant recovery increase of no less than 3%." - Gerald E Olivier, Plant Manager- Avgold Target Division, Loraine Metallurgical Plant, South Africa ...more > >
