Alumbrera Commences Gravity Study

Back to WHAT'S NEW

January 9th, 2003

Kevin Peacocke; Director of Process Development and Claudia Lopez; Research Engineer show that they are not afraid to get their hands (and faces) dirty to get the job done as they commission a KC-XD30 concentrator at the Alumbrera mine in Argentina.

CATAMARCA PROVINCE, Argentina - Knelson Gravity Solutions is pleased to announce the successful commissioning of a specially equipped KC-XD30 concentrator at the world-class Bajo la Alumbrera copper/gold mine located in Northern Argentina. The mine recently completed a mill expansion and is now conducting a detailed plant-scale gravity study in order to evaluate the most recent developments in Knelson technology.

"Over the last couple of years we've done extensive research and development on the recovery of precious metals from base metal operations, and this work has resulted in a number of exciting new developments and several major new global installations," stated Kevin Peacocke; Director of Process Development for Knelson Gravity Solutions.

The key areas of this research has been in the development of application specific cone designs, concentrate bed fluidization profiling, pulp acceleration and alternative methods of concentrate treatment.

"These are truly exciting times in the world of gravity concentration and 2003 promises to be a year to remember as we introduce these innovations to the industry at large," he added.

In closing, he stated "not only is it the 25th anniversary of the Knelson Concentrator but it is the start of something really big."

When questioned about his final remark he stated that he had no comment as he didn't want to let the monster out of the bag.
